August 2025, 8 | Career Development

Wednesday, August 20thA career path development workshop was held in the group study room on the first floor of the Shinagawa Campus Library, with 1 students participating and lectured by Specially Appointed Associate Professor Hattori of the Career Support Center.

The workshop's goals were: 1) to consider one's own career from the perspective of the type of doctoral candidate companies are seeking; 2) to understand the importance of self-understanding and put it into practice when considering one's own career vision. Associate Professor Hattori explained the current state of doctoral students' career paths, the level of emphasis companies place on students' abilities and qualities, the strengths and challenges of doctoral candidates and the challenges of matching them, the process of job hunting and recruitment, and the concept and importance of self-understanding. Using these as clues, each student moved into group work to approach the day's goal. Using worksheets, students expressed their own understanding of themselves. In groups, they compared their perspectives and expression methods with those of other students, providing a bird's-eye view of themselves. They also created lifeline charts, which provided an opportunity to view their experiences and reassess themselves more deeply, broadening and deepening their perspectives on their desired career vision.
